60th Award
Ceremony2009-2010
Delhi
Public
School Mathura Road
is the
flagship of
the DPS
fraternity.
Six decades
ago a group
of
visionaries
lay the
seeds of
this large
family.
Deeply
rooted in
the post
independent
ethos of the
country it
had an
auspicious
birth on its
present site
in 1949.
Time saw it
blossom into
a training
ground for
achievers
who created
history in
multifarious
fields –
from the
political
arena to the
corridors of
power, from
the
creativity
of theatre
and film to
the
imaginative
world of
fashion –
DPS nurtured
each one ,
preparing
them to
fulfil the
largeness of
their
dreams.
From a very
small and
humble
beginning in
1941 in the
Church
Compound of
the
President's
Estate under
the name of
New Delhi
Church High
School,
later moving
to North
Avenue in
1947 as
Naveen
Bharat
School and
finally in
1949 moving
to its
present
location at
Mathura Road
under the
name of
Delhi Public
School, this
DPS Flagship
has
traversed a
long way and
along with
the birth of
a new
nation,
contributed
to the
social and
national
needs of the
society by
nurturing
the growth
of thousands
of children
into
luminaries
in diverse
fields - be
it
academics,
politics,
sports,
creative
arts or in
the
corridors of
power. By
the year
1972 it was
ready to
spread its
wings and
its first
off-shoot,
DPS RK Puram,
came into
being. Then
there was no
stopping in
its growth
and the
Society
established
many
schools. Now
there are 11
core
schools, 109
satellite
schools in
India and 16
satellite
schools
abroad.
The aim of
Delhi Public
School,
Mathura
Road, is to
provide the
best
possible
education to
its students
and to
develop in
them
qualities of
integrity,
honesty,
trust,
tolerance
and
compassion,
to promote a
spirit of
enquiry, to
foster a
scientific
temper
within the
bonds of
humanism, to
help the
students to
become a
meaningful
part of
their
environment
and to know
that courage
and industry
have their
due reward.
Keeping the
above aim
the school
